FSC calls for applications to join the Focus Forest Advisory Group

In the perspective of the FSC General Assembly which was held from 9 to 14 October 2022 in Bali (Indonesia), ATIBT and its members have been involved for more than two years in the preparation of this GA to find a favorable outcome for the protection of Intact Forest Landscapes (IFL) through the adoption of the motion 23, based on the landscape approach.

ATIBT and some of its members thus participated in the FSC GA in Bali, mostly to defend their Motion 23. On Wednesday October 12, 2022, the motion 23 submitted by ATIBT was largely validated by the three economic, environmental and social chambers.

In December 2022, FSC released the interim measure advisory note to maintain IFL management in Latin America, including the Amazon, and Central Africa, requested in Motion 23. The revised note (ADVICE-20-007-18 V2-0) became effective on January 1, 2023.

The second phase is a process of review and revision of the FSC rules for the protection and management of IFL, reflecting the requirements of the approved motion. It is to be supported by broader engagement and consultation through the Focus Forest project. ATIBT and its IFL subgroup are continuing this work, particularly to monitor and engage in the implementation of Motion 23.

We relay in this context the call for applications from FSC to recruit within the Focus Forest Advisory Group (FFAG), which is the advisory committee set up to monitor the implementation of Motion 23:

  • One representative for the Economic North chamber (ideally for a member from the boreal forests)
  • One representative for the Social South chamber
  • One representative for the Social North chamber

For the two representatives for the social chambers, the seats will ideally be allocated to one indigenous representative and one community related candidate.

Applications must be sent in by June 5, 2023 at the latest.
