Deployment of VPA Congo's Legality Verification System (LVS)

ATIBT Congo is building the capacity of forestry company staff to implement the VPA's LVS.

Deployment of VPA Congo's Legality Verification System (LVS)

ATIBT, through its previous activities in the Republic of Congo and the "Appui au Secteur Privé" (ASP-Congo) project financed by the Delegation of the European Union (DUE) in Congo through the 11th EDF, is involved in the implementation of the APV FLEGT process. To this end, following the phase of drawing up training plans for "legality" and "traceability" support, and the development of the modules selected, the next step was to roll them out to forestry companies. To this end, two training workshops were organized successively from April 3 to 6, 2023 in Ouesso (northern Congo) and from May 2 to 5, 2023 in Pointe-Noire (southern Congo).

The aim of these training workshops was to build the capacity of private-sector forestry companies in the areas of timber legality and traceability, with a view to enhancing their involvement in the implementation of the FLEGT VPA process in the Republic of Congo.

Twelve (12) forestry companies benefited from this training.

Six (6) training modules previously identified during training needs analysis missions were developed. They relate to Forest Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Ethics on the one hand, and timber legality and traceability on the other.

The next stage of the training program will be to accompany/coach companies in the identification of documents verifying legality and traceability upstream of the Computerized Legality Verification System (SIVL).
