Preceded by a meeting of the Board of Directors, the 2023 General Assembly took place on June 2 in Nogent-sur-Marne. It was an opportunity to get together with our members to talk about our current actions and discuss priorities for the months ahead, as well as to introduce new members who have recently joined us. The 2022 activity report was also distributed.
One year on from ATIBT's 70th anniversary, what's the latest on the Association's activities? The GA provided an opportunity to present the progress made on our projects, as well as the new initiatives started late 2022 / early 2023, including the ASP Pacte Vert Cameroun project and the CITES task force set up in recent months.
As every year, an activity report summarizing ATIBT's actions has been drawn up and is now available in French and English.
The new members who joined the ATIBT at the beginning of 2023 were also mentioned, and will be presented in the next newsletters.
Organized before the GA, the Board of Directors noted the departure from the Board of Robert Hunink, whom we warmly thank for his contribution over the last few years.
Three new directors have joined the Board.
Arnaud Hétroit, Managing Director of the French federation Le Commerce du Bois, is very familiar with the issues facing timber market, and works closely with ATIBT on CITES issues.
Markus Pfannkuch, Head of Sustainability at Precious Woods, is deeply involved in improving market access for certified tropical timber, and knows both the countries of the Congo Basin, particularly Gabon, and Brazil well.
Ted van der Put also joins the board in his capacity as Chairman of the Precious Forest Foundation, marking the start of collaboration between ATIBT and the foundation. The ATIBT took part in the last Precious Forest Foundation Board meeting at the end of May.
Ted van der Put
We have no doubt that these three new directors, who come from a wide variety of backgrounds - trade federation, company and foundation - will bring a great deal to our Association. We extend a warm welcome to them.
